FRP Announces Exciting Format Changes, Enhanced Prize Structure, and the Opening of Registration for the 2026 Season

February 12, 2026

Formula Race Promotions (FRP) today announced significant format changes and enhanced prize opportunities for the 2026 racing season, introducing an innovative race structure designed to elevate competition and excitement across all classes. Additionally, registration for the 2026 FRP season is now open as the series will feature F1600, F2000, Atlantic, and FE2 classes with a dynamic new competition format. Also joining select events this season will be the Challenge Cup FV, the VS2000 & the FFCS series, each running in their own run group.

Drawing inspiration from successful international racing programs, FRP will implement a comprehensive race weekend structure featuring:

·       Two practice sessions

·       One qualifying session

·       Two heat races

·       One championship final race at each event

Registration for the March 12-15 Road Atlanta (with a Thursday Test Day) is now open!

The new points system will heavily weight the championship final, with reduced points awarded in heat races. This structure creates strategic opportunities throughout each race weekend, rewarding consistency while emphasizing final-race performance.

Prize money, including payments down to seventh position for each final race over a race weekend, trophies, and contingency awards, will be enhanced and awarded exclusively in the final championship race. Complete details are available on the FRP website.

“We’re incredibly excited about the changes we’re bringing to the 2026 season,” explained Bob Wright, FRP Series Owner. “This new format has proven successful around the world, and we believe it will bring a new level of strategy and excitement to our racing. With enhanced prizes focused on the championship finals and our streamlined class structure, we’re creating more opportunities for drivers to compete at the highest level. This is going to be our best season yet.”

Class Structure Updates

Based on 2025 participation data, FRP has streamlined the Atlantic Championship into a single unified class. The Atlantic Championship will now include any eligible car listed in SCCA GCR section 9.1.1.A or spec-line table 2, maintaining full compliance with SCCA General Competition Rules for Formula Atlantic.

Additionally, F2000 and Atlantic will run separate races at as many events as practical, with specific scheduling details posted on the FRP website. FE2 will continue racing per SCCA GCR rules with dedicated race sessions at all events.

Also new for 2026, the FRP Pro License and the Crew, Guest, and Officials Hand Card applications are now all available online.
