Weekend Sweep for Kotyk
Wampum, PA - Jonathan Kotyk won the third and final F1600 Championship Series race of the Pittsburgh International Race Complex weekend, taking the victory by just .034 seconds on the newly-paved 19-turn road course to complete a weekend sweep with three wins in three races for Team Pelfrey. Kotyk led an all Pelfrey Mygale/Honda top three with teammates Matthew Cowley and David Osborne completing the podium. Joel Haas won the Masters Class.
Quotes from the Top Finishers:
Jonathan Kotyk:
"I couldn't ask for a better weekend, it's my first sweep and I can't thank Team Pelfrey and Gap Guard enough. I had a really good run coming out of the final corner and I wanted to make sure to position the car well. Matthew was making it tough, but it was a good race."
Matthew Cowley:
"I didn't have a radio for the race, so I wasn't sure of how many laps to go. I was trying to be first each lap and keep the engine cool. Unfortunately coming out of the last corner Jonathan managed to squeeze by."
David Osborne:
"I made a few mistakes early on and learned from those and drove back to the leaders. It feels good to end the weekend on the podium."
Joel Haas (1st Place - Masters):
"It was a great finish for the weekend after the trouble in the first race and overnight engine change. The crew pulled through and put the car together, thank you to Rice Race Prep."
