VIR F1600 Weekend Preview

June 2, 2015
No. 94 Scott Andrews Spectrum/Honda

Salem, NH – Just three weeks ago rounds four, five, and six of the F1600 Formula F Championship series allowed for non-stop action with lead changes, close finishes, and some unbelievable charges at Watkins Glen. Scott Andrews goes into the VIRginia International Raceway this weekend leading the point standings. In second overall is his teammate Jack Mitchell Jr., followed by Austin Mack in third, off his inaugural F1600 win in May.

Exclusive Autosport driver of the No. 94 car Scott Andrews has a considerable lead over the rest of the field after taking two wins at Watkins Glen. Marking three wins out of six races for the season.

Fellow Exclusive Autosport driver is Jack Mitchell Jr., who sits behind Scott Andrews in the points. Mitchell Jr. finished in the top five races in two and three of the WGI weekend in his Spectrum/Honda. Earlier in the season at Road Atlanta he was able to take first place in race three, round three.

Hard charger for the WGI weekend and third place points holder is K-Hill driver Austin Mack. Mack had a first place finish in race one followed by a DNF in race two. Sitting in last place for the starting grid of race three, Mack climbed nearly to the top of the podium by the end of the race, finishing in second place.

Also part of the K-Hill F1600 double trouble effort is Skylar Robinson. Robinson had two podiums during the Watkins Glen weekend; coming in third place for both races one and two.

F1600 fourth place points holder and Masters Class points leader is Steve Bamford. Bamford finished second in round five of the season at Watkins Glen and had two first place finishes in the masters class division in races one and two of the weekend. The driver of the No. 07 car is also doing very well in the F2000 Championship Series as he leads the points in the series. Bamford also took the win last year in race two at VIR during the 2014 season.

Rounding out the Exclusive Autosport triple threat is Thomas McGregor. McGregor holds the fifth spot overall going into VIR.

Team Pelfrey showed up at Watkins Glens hoping to have better luck than what they did at Road Atlanta. Pelfrey driver Ben Auriemma stands sixth in the overall points. Auriemma has two teammates also on the field for VIR: Andrew Hobbs and Rob Megennis.

Hobbs is looking to move up this weekend in his Mygale/Honda as he just missed the podium at Watkins Glen with a fourth place finish in race one.

Pelfrey will also have Jordan Cane joining the chase for the points at VIR after making an appearance earlier in the season at Palm Beach.

Chastain Motorsports will be back at VIR with Will Harvey, Parker Chase, and Andrew Lewis on the track.

Art Foster stands at second place in the Masters Class division going into rounds seven, eight, and nine. Art Foster graced the podium twice at WGI with second place finishes for both races two and three in the Masters Class, putting him in line for a competitive weekend with Bamford at VIR.

The third weekend of the F1600 Formula F Championship Series 2015 season will kick off with qualifying starting on June 5 at VIR.
