Tumenas Motorsports Karts to Cars Program Launched
Salem, NH - Tumenas Motorsports has enjoyed a strong season in F2000 Championship Series competition with Steve Jenks, and is now expanding its program to offer a karts-to-cars system for aspiring drivers, moving them from karting into both F1600 and F2000.
Tumenas Motorsports has inked a deal with the UK-based ONE Motorsport, which has a U.S. arm in Apex Kart Sport USA.
“After progressing through karting they would then continue with Tumenas Motorsports to race cars,” said Lenny Tumenas, team owner.
“The first step in cars will be F1600; this series is very critical to driver development. The amount of seat time and the competition level in this class will quickly improve on their existing skills. There is not a better place to learn about mechanical grip of the car and also race craft than in F1600.”
Following that, drivers would move into the team’s existing front-running F2000 program, which is based out of a shop in Massachusetts.
In addition, the team has been running Michael Eastwell in the Karting F Series in 2016. Eastwell is leading the Championship with a single weekend remaining. The UK native is in his debut karting season in the formula, visiting all new tracks.
“We offer karts-to-cars all under one roof along with ONE Motorsport/Apex Kart Sport which is perfect for the career minded driver. They will start in our One karts and continue onto racing cars,” Tumenas said. “Having worked at many levels of open wheel racing we can guide the driver up the racing ladder to success. We are with you every step of the way and are always available and accessible to the driver.”
Tumenas got his own start in racing when he was seven years old, wrenching on his father’s race cars.
“From there I worked my way up to crew chief on a Trans-Am team,” he recalled. “Then I was out of racing a bit, trying to make it in ice hockey. But when that ended I was back in a paddock. I got a great opportunity to work as a crew chief then race engineer with Brian Stewart Racing in Indy Lights from 1996 to 2000. I then worked for Swift Engineering in CART as well as working for Panoz/Elan assisting with the building of the Trans-Am car.”
