Summit Point Preview
Salem, NH – With Championships on the line in F1600, F2000 and Atlantic Championship Series competition, the action is set for the second-to-last Formula Race Promotions event of the 2018 season, taking place at Summit Point this weekend. Double races are scheduled for F2000 and Atlantic drivers, while F1600 competitors will look forward to three action-packed races in West Virginia.
F1600
Following a wild weekend at Pittsburgh International Race Complex, where fans packed the hillsides for the Keystone Speedfest, the Championship could not be any closer in F1600 Championship Series competition with just six races remaining.
Just 13 points separate the top contenders, as three teammates battle for the Championship with Dario Cangialosi leading Tyler O’Connor and Yuven Sundaramoorthy, while a fourth K-Hill car sits in fourth and in striking distance in Baylor Griffin.
Driving for Raceworks, Ryan Bjerke and Dexter Czuba follow, and are both looking for their first wins.
In the Masters Class, Joel Haas has a slim but manageable points lead over Mike Scanlan, followed by Sam Lockwood and Scott Rubenzer.
Among other contenders coming into the weekend, Christian Lall Dass has been in the lead pack the last few events in his Piper/Ford.
In addition, Joey Essma is back for Team Pelfrey after multiple wins earlier this season, driving alongside new teammates Nikki Hays and Ayrton Ori.
Coming off two wins at Pittsburgh, Rice Race Prep is also back with Colin Mullan, a Team USA Scholarship Nominee.
F2000
Steve Jenks has moved into a position to drive himself to his first career F2000 Championship Series title at Summit Point as he took a strong victory at PittRace and backed it up with a second place a day later, adding to his points lead.
His rival and 2017 title-winner Brandon Dixon did not turn a lap in competition after a brake failure ended his weekend, sending him tumbling down the Championship standings.
That leaves Jenks with a large points lead over Davis Durrett, who is coming of his first F2000 win for Indy Motorsport Group.
Simon Sikes sits third in points, with Dixon in fourth, narrowly ahead of James Row and his Arms Up Motorsport machine.
Tim Paul was among other quick drivers at PittRace, notching two podium finishes. The R-Sport driver will try to keep that momentum, helped by his 2017 performance at Summit Point which saw two second place results.
Atlantic
K-Hill Motorsports appears to be poised to take double titles in Formula Race Promotions. The team has four drivers atop the F1600 points standings, and Baltazar Leguizamon is ready to clinch the Atlantic Championship Series title this weekend at Summit Point for the team.
Leguizamon is coming off yet another victory at PittRace after a strong performance on Sunday in round 10 of the 14-race Atlantic season. The Argentinean driver will now look to continue his dominating season by sweeping Summit Point, a feat that should clinch him the title.
After a season-long challenge, teammate Blake Mount is still hunting for his first win for K-Hill as well.
The action starts at Summit Point for all three series with Friday morning practice.
