Trailing a strong series of podium runs at circuits both known and foreign to 21 year young driver Eric Filgueiras, a new challenge emerged heading into rounds 7 & 8 held at historic Mid Ohio Sportscar Circuit. Entering the weekend there would be much anticipation to keep the momentum alive in the 14 round series, and Filgueiras would certainly be eager to use all of his knowledge gained this season to his utmost advantage. Kicking off the weekend started with Thursday testing but a challenging day for the team resulted in limited track time.
Thus testing for the Spencer Racing Team would primarily end up falling into Friday’s official practice day. It would prove to be a long day, with the team’s efforts only able to produce a 13th place best time.
Saturday the team put their heads down and got to work. A slight improvement got the team into a 10th place starting position for the weekend’s first round. Keeping out of trouble and moving on toward the finish, Filgueiras would push through and move up three positions to finish 7th. Sunday the team made even more adjustments and with a changed strategy were able to advance to 7th place starting position for race two. It wouldn’t be easy or without controversy, but after a race-long battle Eric was able to improve over Saturday but would have to settle for 5th position.
“It was our most trying weekend since beginning the points series at Road Atlanta” explained Spencer Racing Team driver Filgueiras. “Unfortunately we weren’t able to continue our podium streak, but we bounced back after really struggling with grip, and I owe it all to my crew!”
All of this weekend’s success was accomplished with the constant support of Lipten Energy Solutions, Kovi Consulting, SPEEDCOM Communications, HAWK Performance, BELL Helmets, Oakley, A&B Graphics, GoPro, RaceQuip and Dark Horse Pros.
