The 2015 edition of the Spectrum International Scholarship Award will see Australia’s Scott Andrews cap an outstanding season of F1600 competition with a trip to race at the illustrious Walter Hayes Trophy hosted at Silverstone, England, 31st October to 1st November.

The scholarship, a collaborative effort between Exclusive Management Inc. and Borland Racing Developments, was established to recognize a Spectrum driver who has displayed both outstanding talent and a solid work ethic on and off the race track during the season.  The prize is designed to give the driver exposure to competition in new countries while providing an opportunity for continued driver development and growth.

Andrews (24) from Torquay, Victoria has enjoyed an impressive rookie year competing in the SCCA sanctioned F1600 Formula F Championship Series with Exclusive Autosport, the official North American factory Spectrum team.

With a record-breaking seven wins to his credit, Andrews has led the Driver Standings since the opening round in April and he heads into next month’s finale in Pittsburgh with a lead of 100 points over second-placed Skylar Robinson.

Andrews hasn’t only showcased his pace in the United States this season.  In two excursions back to Exclusive Autosport’s native Canada the Australian racer has captured three wins, three pole positions and a third place finish contesting the final two double-header rounds of the Toyo Tires F1600 Series.

Included in those victories is last weekend’s triumph in the prestigious Al Craighead Memorial Can-Am Cup at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, one of the few titles that had previously eluded the Exclusive squad during their back-to-back championship wins in 2013 and 2014.  A visit to Circuit Mont-Tremblant for a round of the Quebec-based Formula Tour 1600 Championship also saw Andrews net a pole position and a second place podium result.

In light of his F1600 successes, all engineered behind the wheel of the Spectrum 014, Exclusive Management Inc., the official North American importer and distributor for Spectrum Chassis, and Borland Racing Developments, the designers and builders of Spectrum, have decided to award the Spectrum International Scholarship to Scott.

As a result his scholarship prize is a trip to compete in a Kevin Mills Racing prepared Spectrum, with support from Borland Racing Developments and Exclusive Autosport, at the heralded Silverstone Circuit in England, home of the British Grand Prix.

The coveted Walter Hayes Trophy is the premier Formula Ford contest in the world with over 100 entries challenging to break through the qualifying heats and into the 36-car final on Sunday 1st November.

“There’s no doubt in our minds that Scott’s thoroughly deserving of this year’s Spectrum International Scholarship,” said Michael Duncalfe, CEO of Exclusive Management Inc.  “He’s had to learn every circuit he’s raced at this season but he’s proved himself to be a fast learner and an even faster racer.  Some of his victories have been hard fought come-from-behind drives while others have been showcase performances from pole.

“I know with Scott there’s also a sense of pride being an Australian driver racing in an Australian built chassis.  He’s certainly a great ambassador not only for his country but also for the capabilities of the Spectrum chassis.  Mike Borland and I are thrilled to award Scott the Spectrum International Scholarship and we look forward to seeing him compete against the world’s best at the Walter Hayes Trophy in England.”

“Once again I’m excited to offer this opportunity to a young driver, especially this year as I’ve followed Scott since his first days in a Spectrum Formula Ford in Australia,” commented Mike Borland, CEO of Borland Racing Developments.  “We are proud to have an Australian driver in an Australian built car.  After John Martin narrowly missed the win three years ago we hope that Scott can be first to the flag this year!”

“To say I’m honoured and humbled to have been given this incredible opportunity would be an understatement,” enthused Scott Andrews.

“Since I was a kid growing up in karts I’ve always dreamed of racing in Europe.  Now I’m being given the opportunity to race at one of the largest and arguably the most prestigious Formula Ford race in the world and it’s at Silverstone, which is just amazing!

“To represent Spectrum, Exclusive Management Inc., Exclusive Autosport and all my supporters is an incredible honour.  I first met Michael Duncalfe of Exclusive Management Inc. in Australia last year when he was with 2014 Spectrum International Scholarship winner Tristan DeGrand.  We subsequently put our deal together for this season and it’s been nothing short of amazing.  Again, I really want to thank everyone who’s supported me at home in Australia and in North America and to Exclusive Management Inc. for making this journey possible!”
