SOS Children’s Villages Becomes Official Charity with Watkins Glen Cup

March 2, 2011

Sharon, CT – SOS Children’s Villages has been named the official charity of the F2000 Championship Series and the F1600 Formula F Championship Series. SOS Children's Villages focuses on family-based, long-term care of children who can no longer grow up with their biological families. The charity’s new initiative, “Keeping Kids on Track,” will brand a new inner-championship for both F2000 and F1600: The SOS Children’s Villages Watkins Glen Cup.

The award will be presented to the driver in each Series that scores the most points during both weekends (four races) at Watkins Glen International at the year-end Series banquet on October 16 following the final races of the 2011 season at Watkins Glen.

Keeping Kids On Track is a perfect slogan for this great partnership,” said Heather Paul, CEO, SOS Children’s Villages – USA. “Racing is about family and people in your life who become family, to give you a first start, or a fresh start. That’s what SOS does around the world—we give orphaned and abandoned children a family and a future, and we provide a place of healing where brothers and sisters in foster care are reunited once more. This will be a terrific opportunity to introduce the racing community to SOS Children’s Villages – a charity that shares their values."

As the official charity of both Series, SOS Children’s Villages will receive branding at the track and on marketing materials as well as content opportunities on the Series’ various delivery routes and more. Additionally, SOS youths will be on-hand to take part in the F2000 weekend.

“We are pleased to have the SOS Children’s Villages as the Official Charity of F2000 and F1600 for 2011. The good work they do is certainly deserving of our support and we look forward to being an enthusiastic supporter,” commented Michael Rand, series managing director.
