Series Continues Growth, More Races and More Cars for 2014
Sharon, CT – For F1600 Formula F Championship Series participants, a new year means an expanded schedule, with more teams, drivers and new cars expected for the Series. The big news is a schedule expansion with a robust Formula F market supporting the addition of one more race weekend, making it 14-races and seven weekends on the calendar.
Championships in 2011, 2012 and 2013 came down to the final race weekend, and 2014 is shaping up to be a similarly competitive season.
The Series will make its return to Watkins Glen International for the first time since 2012, and will make debut visits to Pittsburgh International and the recently renovated road course at Thompson Speedway in Connecticut.
On the teams’ front, driver announcements are expected through the opening rounds at Road Atlanta in April, but three new teams have already thrown their hats into the ring.
Chastain Motorsports announced their intentions in November, with a Mygale/Honda program for Sam Chastain and additional drivers, while Team Pelfrey followed with a similar Mygale/Honda announcement.
2013 Champion Jake Eidson is off to USF2000 – leaving the Championship wide open – and reports of no shortage of new Spectrum chassis being sold over the winter and another new pro team on the verge of a Series entry announcement.
HP-Tech will be arriving as well with a multi-car Spectrum effort. The 2012 F2000 Champions will run programs in both F2000 and F1600, and are no strangers to the top step of the podium.
Add in a return multi-car effort by WISKO Racing, in addition to Polestar Racing Group with programs in Atlantic, F2000 and F1600, and the field becomes ultra-competitive.
The action starts at Road Atlanta, April 11-13 with the F2000 Championship Series and Atlantic Championship Series.
