Rounds Three and Four Shaping up for the Atlantic Championship Series
Salem, NH - Coming up this weekend is the second stop on the fourteen-round, seven-weekend Atlantic Championship Series. Teams and drivers will be calling Watkins Glen International home for the weekend as an exciting grid will take to the track and possibly move one step closer to the title. Making their season debut with the series will be Garth Rickards and Keyvan Andres.
Making his first appearance in the Atlantic Championship Series is Garth Rickards, who has advanced from the F1600 Formula F Series to Atlantics. Rickards did very well in the F1600 Series, coming in second overall and having multiple podium finishes throughout the season. Rickards is now showing his talents for K-Hill Motorsports.
“I think the key will be getting up to speed in the first practice and qualifying well. I think we will be in good shape for the podium and fighting for a win,” said Rickards on the upcoming weekend. Rickards has already put in some time with K-Hill, as he came in second in the SCCA Majors at Sebring with them.
The German bred Andres has also joined up with K-Hill Motorsports for the 2015 season, adding to the already strong lineup of drivers K-Hill has under their belt. Andres recently reset the overall track record in his Atlantic car during an SCCA event at Summit Point.
Also back for stop two in the K-Hill arsenal is the father son duo of No. 56 Conner and No. 69 Gaston Kearby.
“Watkins Glen is one of my favorite tracks, very excited. I believe that the K-Hill Motorsports guys and I showed that we could definitely contend again in the Championship this year,” said C. Kearby, who after a few intense final laps was able to overtake Keith Grant and get the win in the second at Road Atlanta.
K-Hill will also have Bruce Crockett, Mike Jacques, and Bruce Hamilton on the track for them at Watkins Glen.
Race one winner at Road Atlanta, Keith Grant, will be representing Polestar Racing Group at Watkins Glen as he goes into the weekend currently leading in points.
Another new face for the 2015 season is Mark Sherwood, who will be driving a Ralt RT-41 for the weekend. Paired with the Swift 014’s on the grid, and with Corliss’ podium finish at Road Atlanta in the Atlantic Challenge, it is safe to say that the older model cars can definitely still compete.
Comprent Motor Sports driver Richard Zober will be looking to move up the podium at Watkins Glen, as he finished third in race one at Road Atlanta. Also driving for the Georgia based team is Bob Corliss and Chris Ash.
Corliss be competing in the Atlantic Challenge along with K-Hill drivers: Bruce Crocket, Gaston Kearby, and Bruce Hamilton. G. Kearby took first in both Atlantic Challenge race one and two at Road Atlanta.
From Grant’s early lead and amazing display of skill in race one at Road Atlanta to Grant and C. Kearby going back and forth for the win in race two, Road Atlanta laid the groundwork for the exciting season that will continue to unfold. Behind them was a whole field of competent drivers who are now gunning for the top spot at Watkins Glen.
Rounds three and four of the Atlantic Championship Series will be this coming weekend May 15-17 at Watkins Glen International.
