Sophia, North Carolina- F2000 Championship Series front-runner Skylar Robinson made his oval racing debut this past Saturday in a USAC HPD Midget.  The 18 year-old would travel to Caraway Speedway in Sophia, North Carolina to pilot a Brown & Noffsinger Motorsports prepared Midget.

Over the course of the day, the .455 mile paved banked oval delivered its set of challenges to the Georgia native including weeping pavement, greasy track conditions, and a bumpy surface.  Despite the conditions, Robinson and his Brown & Noffsinger Motorsports team consistently ran towards the top of the speed charts in practice.

The team was feeling confident going into qualifying considering their pace in practice.  Robinson was able to deliver and he put the car P1.  However, a top four invert was in order relegating Robinson back to the 4th place starting position for the main.

The 20 lap main started well for Skylar as he slotted his was into 3rd before the first lap was complete.  He then set his sights on the top two who had stretched a small gap over him.  Running fast, consistent laps, Robinson ran down the lead duo and started to look for a way by into the second position.  A brief caution halted his attack momentarily, but after going back to green, he resumed applying pressure on past series champion Scott Hunter.  With two laps to go, Skylar found a way by Hunter for 2nd, positioning himself for a shot at the win.  On the last lap, Robinson made his move for the lead.  Unfortunately, he caught too much curb on entry sending the car into a fellow competitor and then into the wall ending his race.

“The whole day was going really, really well up until the last lap of the main.  I just made a misjudgment which, unfortunately, had pretty severe consequences.  We had great pace and the guys at Brown & Noffsinger Motorsports did an incredible job giving me a car that was hooked up.  I can’t thank Wade Brown and Brad Noffsinger enough for their advice and support and giving me the opportunity to compete.  Also, big a shout out to the dynamic duo: Keith and Kenny Koldsbaek, for all their hard work and help”, Skylar commented.
