Norman Completes Another Weekend Sweep
Alton, VA - K-Hill Motorsports driver Ryan Norman swept the VIR weekend in the Atlantic Championship Series, leading flag-to-flag in Sunday afternoon's race. The driver of the No. 48 Swift 016/Mazda has swept two straight weekends, and finished at VIR ahead of Keith Grant in second place. Bob Corliss won the Atlantic Challenge in a Comprent Motorsports Swift 014/Toyota.
Norman, from pole, was able to stay ahead of Keith Grant in turn one and from there, managed his driving and pace to take the victory.
"It was a great race, the start was awesome going three-wide into turn one. I just went really deep on the brakes and almost lost it. It's another great weekend with K-Hill Motorsports, they gave me a good car and I can't thank them enough," said Norman, after his fifth win of the season in a dominating weekend.
Keith Grant logged his second straight second-place finish in two days, having to outrun brother David Grant who followed him closely for the majority of the race before falling back with an issue. Both brothers race in Polestar-prepared Swift 016/Mazdas.
"I had a good race, the car worked really well all day but I didn't seem to have anything for Ryan," said Keith Grant.
"It was a great race until 10 minutes to go. I need to get used to the aero behind another car again, that is why I almost lost it," said David Grant.
In the Atlantic Challenge, Bruce Hamilton led early in the No. 06 Swift 014/Toyota from K-Hill Motorsports. However, an issue dropped him through the field and produced a visit to pit road.
Bob Corliss, who had been right behind Hamilton, then took over the lead of the Atlantic Challenge category, taking the victory.
Among the action in the race was a long battle between Polestar's Lewis Cooper Jr. and Comprent's Chris Ash for fourth position. After a lap-by-lap battle, Ash took the position and brought home a fourth place result.
Of note, John Burke surrendered his No. 55 Company Motorsports Swift 014/Toyota to son Connor for Sunday's qualifying and race. After an encouraging pace early in the race, Burke failed to finish.
Sunday's VIR race marked round six of the 2016 Atlantic season which features double-race weekends at all events.
