Watkins Glen, NY – While Skylar Robinson took the lead back with five laps to go to win the season finale F2000 Championship Series race at Watkins Glen, it was Tim Minor that clinched the 2014 Championship with a second place finish. Robinson started on pole, lost the lead, and grabbed it back for his fourth win of the season, while Minor followed. Saturday winner Sam Beasley finished third in round 14 of the 2014 season.

Said 18-year-old Robinson on his win: “Today it was about getting as many points as possible.” While he maxed the day out on points, Robinson missed the 2014 title by a mere two points in the final standings.

Minor vaulted into the lead from the outside front row and led half the race at Watkins Glen to close out the 2014 F2000 Championship Series season, clinching the 2014 title by finishing second. The final half of the year came down to Minor and Robinson as the two battled in similar Citation chassis.

The rivalry was highlighted by a first lap incident on Saturday during the f2000 race, where Robinson and Minor came together. Minor would fight back into the top ten, setting the track record, while Robinson’s car had damage and he could only muster 11th.

For Minor, it was a back-to-back title effort, defending his 2013 crowd and also clinching the 2014 Masters Class Championship.

“We didn’t have a car to win today, but we had a second place car that could win the Championship, and that was what I came here to do,” said Minor, who drives the No. 88 Citation for Ski Motorsports. “It has been a big roller coaster the last three weekends; it is not just me but a team effort. It was focus forward and put yesterday’s incident behind me.”

After a dominating win on Saturday Beasley finished third, ahead of Polestar teammate David Grant, who was fourth overall after a second place run on Saturday. Sergio Pasian completed the top five.

Thomas McGregor was sixth for Exclusive Autosport, with Zacharie Robichon in seventh.

Trent Walko finished eighth and Jason Rabe finished ninth to clinch the season-long CellMark Paper Hard Charger award. Quinlan Lall was tenth.

Contact in the early stages of the race ended the day for Tim Paul, who wouldn’t be able to repeat his third place performance from Saturday. Jim Libecco and Steve Bamford also failed to finish the race. John McCusker was sidelined when he lost a wheel from the Dotworks Racing RFR mid-way through the event. The race featured one brief full course caution period.

While the 2014 F2000 Championship season has concluded, the Series expects to make a schedule announcement in the coming weeks for the 2015 season.
