Miller Captures Pole for First Summit Point Race
Summit Point, WV - Championship leader Chris Miller and JDC MotorSports moved another step closer to the 2009 title this morning by taking pole and three championship bonus points at Summit Point for this afternoon’s first F2000 race of the weekend. Miller spent most of the morning session with the second fastest time but was able to find a gap on his very last flying lap, taking pole as the checkered flags waved. Miller also broke the standing F2000 track record at Summit Point by more than a full second.
"It was a tough session and basically impossible to find a clear lap," said Miller. "I finally did at the end and JDC gave me the car to do it, the bonus points are just super important for the championship."
2008 Masters Class champion Tim Minor, who was fastest in Thursday testing, will line up on the outside of the front row.
"I have a great, great car," commented Minor in post-qualifying tech inspection. "I have tons of experience here, but we have to remember that qualifying is qualifying and racing is racing. I only did a few laps in that session; we are saving the tires for the race."
Matthew Inge, who is also in contention for the 2009 title, will line up third. Inge, who drives for St. Clair Motorsports, said: "We got a couple clear laps but the setup is still far from where it needs to be. We need to make some serious changes before the race to be in contention."
Keith McCrone was the second fastest Masters driving, qualifying his #5 R-Sport Van Diemen fourth overall, with Fabio Orsolon rounding out the top five for Alegra Motorsports. "I’m happy with the top five," said Orsolon. "The race is going to be a total fight and hopefully I can take it to the guys in front of me."
Remy Audette, who is sitting second in the points right now, could only manage to qualify sixth. "We changed the gearing yesterday after practice thinking it would make us faster but it didn’t," Audette said.
Today’s race 22-lap race gets going around 2:45pm. Sunday follows a similar format with a 10:25am qualifying and 2:30pm green flag. Stay tuned to www.F2000ChampionshipSeries.com for the latest.
