Lexington, OH - News and notes from around the paddock at Mid-Ohio on Saturday July 2.
Ada Looks to Promising Weekend
It will be the first time at Mid-Ohio for K-Hill Motorsports driver Hans Ada, in the No. 33 Mygale/Honda.
"My expectations are to first master the track since this will be my first time racing at this facility. K-Hill Motorsports and I have worked hard preparing for this weekend and my expectations are to stay in the top five all weekend," Ada said.
"This track will be one of the most challenging and it definitely doesn't help not having racing experience here but I've been studying videos and practicing on the simulator."
First Race for Melvin
Andy Melvin makes his first start in the F1600 Series this weekend in the No. 23 Van Diemen/Honda, and aims to build on his June Sprints victory from June.
"We won the June Sprints a couple weeks ago and at that moment decided to rent an RV and make the trek from Colorado all the way out to Ohio," said Melvin. "It is both my expectation and a challenge which I welcome in that Mid-Ohio is one of the most driver-demanding pure road racing tracks there is. I like to think that my talents as a driver mesh very well with what Mid-Ohio requires to be successful. Hard, deep braking zones and technical winding corners."
Melvin continued: "If there's one facet of my game that I think may actually match up with the Pro series drivers, it's braking. At the same time, this is my biggest challenge. I'm a Mid-Ohio virgin and these guys I'm sure have been here a handful of times."
Bamford: ‘Survive the Weekend’
The runaway F2000 Championship Series points leader and F1600 Formula F Championship Series title contender Steve Bamford outlined his plan at Mid-Ohio: maximize points totals and stay out of trouble.
“Our expectations are to simply survive the weekend and gather as many points as possible,” said the Rice Race Prep driver. “We will be running with limited or no turnaround time in some sessions. With the warm weather it will be very tough on the team and myself as the driver to make every session.”
