Mazda Announces Atlantic & F2000 Championship Contingency Program

May 14, 2016

WATKINS GLEN, New York. (May 13, 2016) – While the Mazda Road to Indy is busy at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Mazda Road to 24 is sharing the pavement at Watkins Glen International with several series including the Formula Race Promotions' Atlantic Championship Series and the F2000 Championship Series. This made for ideal timing to announce a new Mazda Motorsport partnership supporting Mazda racers competing in the two SCCA Pro Racing open-wheel championships.

Mazda will be posting season championship cash awards for those Mazda-powered racers who finish in the top-five in either championship.

Champions in each series are eligible to compete in the post-season Mazda Road to Indy shootout to earn a MRTI scholarship for 2017.

Quotes:

John Doonan, director of motorsports, Mazda North American Operations: “These championships represent great racing and great value for teams and drivers looking to join the Mazda Road to Indy. Having a place for the soon to be replaced USF2000 cars to race is an ideal way to grow the F2000 fields. We are investing in both series support and prizes to help grow these series where competitors have a choice of powertrains. We want that choice to be Mazda.”

Alan Guibord, co-owner of Formula Race Promotions:"We're really excited for Mazda to be part of the Formula Race Promotions program moving forward. Mazda has demonstrated their continued support of open-wheel racing and we're happy to be part of their efforts. It is an added bonus for our drivers in F1600, F2000 and Atlantic to be eligible for the Mazda scholarship shootout."
