Max Mällinen to Drive for Swan Motorsports in the 2014 F1600 Formula F Championship Series

Fort Worth, TX. (March 19, 2014) - Swan Motorsports is pleased to announce that 15-year-old Max Mällinen will drive for the team in the 2014  F1600 Formula F Championship Series, in a multi-year deal with the team that plans to have him move up the racing ladder into the F2000 Series and then the Atlantic Championship Series.

 “It feels great to sign a multi-year deal with Swan Motorsports. I am very pleased and prepared to work hard,” Mällinen said. “I have been able to run many laps at Swan’s test facility in Texas and am now able to focus on competing. I’m very excited to be working with Mirl and Swan Motorsports for the next several seasons. Mirl has won many Championships including Indy Lights and Atlantic; he knows how to win. It’s really an honor and a pleasure to be a part of his team.”
 
Swan has seen first hand Max’s ability on and off the track. In addition to observing Max during F1600 testing and following Max’s karting career, Max has been under Swan’s tent observing formula races for many years as a Swan Development Driver.  
 
“It’s great news for the team to have Max on board for the next two seasons. I have known Max for many years and followed his development. We are excited to have him compete on our team.” said team owner Mirl Swan. “Max has done a fantastic job during testing, posting some good times, and showing great consistency. Max also responds really well to input, provides good feedback, and the team has been pleased with his attitude. I think he will be a strong contender over the next several years.”
 
Mällinen has been competing in international and national karting series and has won three Championships over the past two years. Last season, he had 30 starts with 17 wins, 15 poles and 23 podiums leading to two Championship titles.

Mällinen will drive the black No. 10 Swan Motorsports Spectrum/Honda.. Spectrum has won the US, UK and Australian F1600 Championships.

He is the son of former SCCA National Champion and IMSA Pro Atlantic C2 Champion Michael Mällinen.

Since 2006 Swan Motorsports has won eight Runoffs National Championships.  Including six Formula Atlantic Championships with five different drivers, five SCCA Triple Crowns, three SCCA Super Sweeps, and multiple SCCA Division Titles.  In 2009 the team won the IMSA Pro Atlantic C2 Championship. Swan Motorsports owner, Mirl Swan has won several National Championships in Karting, Formula Atlantic and Indy Lights, as a driver and a crew chief. Swan Motorsports is based at Motorsports Ranch near Ft. Worth, Texas.
