Livengood: "Geeking Out"

February 11, 2012
Livengood drove a Van Diemen in 2010 and 2011. What's next?

Welcome to the New Year! This is my blog, and here is my standard copout. Given that I’m operating on what must be only two remaining brain cells, thank you copious amounts of race fumes, I am going to attempt to write something that is at a minimum entertaining.

Keep in mind that my numerous pleas for a series funded writing stimulus; interpret that as ‘alcohol fund,’ were all emphatically denied.

(editor’s note – Mr. Livengood lost his “writing stimulus” after consistently failing to file blogs on time during the 2010 and 2011 race seasons. )

As a result I am thus forced to conjure up these words stubbornly and soberly, and because of this my 2012 race blogs may boil down to dry race recaps or a boastful reflections of bygone times that nobody cares about except myself.

Now that my obligatory excuse session is out of the way, let’s get down to business. 2010 for me was about learning. 2011 was about applying knowledge learnt. 2012, is about development. Development of my own race craft?

Sure, I’m always game for adding a few new tools to the box, but mainly I’m referring to cars. This is going to be interesting because we will get to watch two types of racing, the literal race on the track, and the figurative race taking place in the land of the nerds where hours of geeking out and mouth breathing will lead to faster race cars! Exciting yes?

Admittedly, I am one of these mouth breathers and I my nerd dial is certainly set to 11 for the 2012 season. The recent influx of new machines onto the grid created a stir last season. These shiny new driving machines didn’t quite splash like many predicted, instead they slipped stealthily into the backstory of the season making occasional leaps above the water for an opportunistic water bug.

That however, I proclaim, will change drastically during this rotation around or celestial center. Luckily for you, I have evidence to support my belief. Unfortunately for you, I am going to choose to tuck this evidence nicely into my right side jean pocket and wait to let it unravel itself come the first race of the season. Insert maniacal laugh here.
