Liberty Motorsports Commences F2000 Title Chase at VIR
ROCKFORD, ILL. (April 7, 2010) – Liberty Motorsports commences its pursuit of the F2000 Championship Series title this weekend (April 10-11), with Rounds One and Two taking place VIRginia International Raceway. As part of a two-car effort by the Illinois-based squad, series veteran Bobby Caldwell and class newcomer Tim Kautz will get behind the wheels ready to make their mark in the season-opening doubleheader.
A little over a week after starting its 2010 pro race campaign with a podium finish in St. Petersburg, Fla., Liberty Motorsports will be back in action in the Southeastern USA via the opening races of the highly competitive F2000 Championship Series. While the names of the racers in the cockpits will be different from Florida, the goal will be the same in Virginia...run near the front and challenge for wins. In Caldwell and Kautz, Liberty Motorsports believes it has the right mix of experience and speed to meet these goals.
For Caldwell, the two races at VIR mark another opportunity to showcase his skills behind the wheel of a Formula Ford 2000. The No. 80 Caldwell Racing/Liberty Motorsports race pilot has competed in selected F2000 Championship Series races for the past two years, regularly running among the lead pack battling for the win. Building on a relationship formed with Liberty Motorsports in the later half of 2009, both the driver and team believe the stage is set for a highly successful 2010 season.
While Kautz enters the season-opening doubleheader as a Formula Ford 2000 rookie, the talented racer has plenty of experience and success on his resume. The Geneva, Ill., racer gets behind the wheel of the No. 36 Liberty Motorsports entry as a multiple SCCA Club Racing Division champion and National race winner in Formula Ford. Given his raw speed and technical feedback, many expect Kautz to get up to speed quickly, and challenging for top honors.

The F2000 Championship Series on-track action for the Liberty Motorsports duo gets underway on Thursday (April 8), via five 45-minute test sessions. One day later, the season officially begins at VIRginia International Raceway with two practice sessions. Saturday morning (April 10) will feature a 25-minute qualifying session, setting the grid for Round One later in the day. The format will be repeated on Sunday (April 11), with Round Two slated to go mid-afternoon.
