Leguizamon Goes Five for Five
Alton, VA – Starting from third, Baltazar Leguizamon took his fifth win in a row for K-Hill Motorsports, recovering despite going off course early in the race to take the victory at VIR on Saturday afternoon in round five of the 2018 Atlantic Championship season. Lee Alexander finished a career-best second for Comprent Motorsports while Bruce Hamilton completed the podium in another K-Hill Motorsports entry.
Quotes:
Baltazar Leguizamon: “We had a good qualifying despite a problem with fuel. We were running close to the lead, and had a problem in turn three, going off course. I didn’t crash which is good. The safety car helped me. The first restart was tricky, the car in front of me smashed the brakes … we did everything to win, and it’s the fifth one in a row, which is good for the Championship.”
Lee Alexander: “I don’t know if I had a shot at the win. I was just trying to keep it on the road; it seemed if you could stay on (the track) you’d be up here. I lucked out and here I am.”
Bruce Hamilton: “It was certainly better than yesterday. It was a great race.”
Of note, David Grant started from pole and led early, he eventually retired from the race following an off-course incident that required a wing change.
Keith Grant also logged laps in the lead, falling back on a late race restart from the lead as his car slowed in the middle of turn one.
Black Mount also failed to finish for the first time this year, after a string of podium performances.
