Watkins Glen, NY – When it counted the most, Matias Koykka found a couple of tenths around the 3.4-mile long course at Watkins Glen International to take pole for the final race of the season. That adds three points to his lead in the Championship over Brandon Newey, who starts fourth and needs a strong result and some luck to steal the Championship away from Koykka.
Lining up next to Koykka who drives for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing will be newcomer Adrian Starrantino, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport with Curb/Agajanian . Starrantino’s Mygale/Honda has been out of the picture almost all weekend with mechanical problems, and could figure in to this by taking points away from Koykka.
However, not far away in third is the second Cape Motorsports entry of Neil Alberico, who also, like Starrantino, is in his first F1600 weekend, although the American has quite a bit of open-wheel experience.
Jim Goughary completed the top five in a Van Diemen/Honda.
