K-Hill Motorsports Cleans Up on Sunday

Practice went well for the K-Hill drivers as Mack would set the second quickest time in the opening session, while Robinson would follow up in the afternoon, going P1.  Das continued to methodically work his times down throughout the day as he adjusted to the car.

 Saturday would bring a qualifying session in the morning for the 18 car F1600 field.  The K-Hill trio would be lead by Robinson who would promptly put his Mygale SJ12 on pole, breaking the track record by .6 tenths of a second. Mack would work through an overheating issue to put the car in 8th, with Das in 9th.
 
The start to Race 1 proved to be hectic as cars throughout the field jostled for position.  Once the dust settled, Skylar would lead the first lap followed by Mack who advanced to sixth with Das dropped to 13th.
 
As the race developed Robinson would slip back to 6th, while Austin would continue his charge through the field to 5th.  However, an incident would send Mack off track relegating him to 10th.  Meanwhile, Robinson would fight his fight his way back to the top 3.  The Georgia native would make an aggressive move down the inside of turn 5 for the second place position.  Unfortunately things didn’t shake out, and due to a missed shift, Robinson would lock up the rears and slid into his fellow competitor, sending him off track.  Despite crossing the line in third, he would receive thirteenth place points for the racing incident.  Last lap excitement would continue farther in the field as Mack, who had battled his way to a top 5 position, had to swerve off track to avoid a car that had spun, sending him to 7th where he finished.  Meanwhile, Das would work his way up to a top 10 finish is his debut race.
 
Race 2 started off with drama for the K-Hill trio.  Robinson would take the green flag in third, with Mack in seventh, and Das in twelfth.  It was a clean start for the three but, an incident involving five cars would immediately bring out a full course before the first lap was completed.  Once racing resumed, Robinson would restart in third, Mack in sixth, with Das in seventh.  As the field found its rhythm, Robinson would run in the top three, positioning himself for a shot at victory.  On the last lap, a nail biting finish saw the 19 year-old take the win after a three wide move going into turn 1.  Mack and Das raced each other hard for the sixth position and when the checkered flag flew, Mack would edge out his teammate by less than a tenth for P6.
 
Sunday afternoon concluded for the F1600 field with a third race late in the afternoon.  Robinson would start 5th followed by F1600 Rookie Das in 8th and Rhode Island resident Mack in 9th.  The first couple of laps were clean for all drivers and saw Robinson making his way to the front of the pack as Mack demonstrated race craft to position himself in the top 5.   However, an incident with another driver moved Mack back deep in the field, but another recovery drive saw him make his way up to 7th.  Robinson again worked to position himself for another last lap shoot out.  As the white flag flew, Robinson would make a daring, outside pass in turn 1 to deliver a Sunday sweep for K-Hill Motorsports.  Cameron would close out his first 1600 race weekend with another solid top 10 finish, crossing the line in 8th.
 
Also running out of the K-Hill stable was Drew Heffring, who would be making his formula car racing debut in the F2000 Championship Series.  Heffring would methodically work his times down on Friday after sorting some engine issues.  Unfortunately, the issue resurfaced and Drew would be unable to compete in the races.
