Johnston Pumped for Season Opener at VIR

April 1, 2011

Orangeville, ONT - The countdown is on - only one week until the start of the 2011 race season. The inaugural race weekend in the new F1600 Formula F Championship Series will be challenging, but Caitlin Johnston, from Ontario, is up for it.

“For our team it feels like the definite logical next step. We have been racing Formula 1600 for four seasons now, really learning the ins and outs of the car and gaining race experience.  I have been very fortunate to be able to race in different cars and series, and this is no different. To say that I am excited is an understatement,” said Johnston.

In 2010, Johnston contested the Ontario Formula Ford Championship, and also did a handful of NASCAR Canadian Tire Series events following her rookie season in the F2000 Championship Series in 2009.

For the 2011 season, Warp 9 Racing has moved to a new engine package, the Honda Performance Development (HPD) L15A7 (based on production Fit).

“As a team, we looked at the different options, Ford Kent and HPD L15A7. After a great deal of consideration we felt the HPD L15A7 engine package had a great deal to offer, and from there we decided to make the switch. We are really looking forward to racing with the HPD L15A7 engine, and seeing all the potential that it holds.”

With the first race being held at VIR, it makes for a great start to the 2011 season. Having raced there in 2009 with the F2000 Championship Series, the initial learning curve for Johnston is not as steep.

“I am thrilled that the Series visits VIR. It is an excellent race course that is technical, challenging and fast. A real racers track.”

With a busy 2011 race season quickly shaping up, Johnston is up for the task.

The 2011 inaugural F1600 Formula F Championship Series opens at VIR, April 8-10, with a double-header weekend, like all the events. The Series next heads to Watkins Glen, June 3-5, with Grand-Am. June 30-July 2 sees the Series visit Mid-Ohio before pairing up with the NASCAR Modifieds at Lime Rock Park, September 16-17, and finishes at Watkins Glen, October 14-16, with what is appearing to be a 2011 full of massive car counts
