Johnston: Pre-VIR
Hey Everyone,
Last season was a very busy one, racing both in our Formula 1600 as well as competing in a couple of NASCAR Canadian Tire Series races. I graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University in June 2010, with a Bachelor of Arts, Honours Political Science.
Our racing season in 2010 was quite successful. I placed third in the Ontario Formula Ford Championship, having lead the points championship most of the season. A mechanical failure in Montreal threw a wrench into the mix, leaving us to borrow a car to finish the season out. Overall, it was a great season, with many highs, and a couple of lows. I had three significant notables during the season. I am the first female in the Ontario Formula Ford Championship to score a pole position, I was the recipient of the Muriel Knap award for the second time and I was voted Up and Coming Canadian Road Racer of the year in the Inside Track Readers’ Choice Awards.
We had a pretty good start in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series this season, competing in three select road course races, Mosport, the Honda Indy Toronto, as well as the Montreal NASCAR Nationwide weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Learning to race a stock car has been a whole different animal, but one that I have very much enjoyed. It is completely different racing skill set, to which I had no problem adapting to.
With two weeks to go until the first race, time just cannot pass quickly enough until we are back at the track. While I have been keeping very busy in the off-season with school, an internship, snowmobiling, and most of all car prep, it is still a very long time between seasons.
The team is extremely excited to get the season started. VIR is one of my favourite tracks to race at, and you can definitely not count out the cheesecake.
