Grant Takes Summit Point Win
Summit Point, WV - David Grant won the 12th round of the 2017 Atlantic Championship Series held on Sunday afternoon at Summit Point Motorsports Park's 10-turn, 2.0-mile road course. Grant executed a move on the first lap of the race to take the lead, charging to victory in the No. 29 Polestar Racing Group Swift 016/Mazda. Grant triumphed over Saturday winner Peter Portante, from K-Hill Motorsports, who finished second by less than a second. Keith Grant moved through the field from deep in the pack to finish third and John Burke won the Masters Class.
Quotes from the Top Finishers:
David Grant:
"Peter kept the pressure on, it was a great run. The Polestar car was great today. The car was on rails the entire race. The gaps were consistent and I knew I couldn't put a tire off, Peter kept the pressure on and it was a fun race."
Peter Portante:
"The good thing about this series is that while we were in similar cars, David was quicker than me in some places, and I was faster in others. I couldn't close the gap enough. It just wasn't there today. It was a good points weekend, and we'll get back after it and go for wins at New Jersey."
Keith Grant:
"I got stuck behind Matt Miller early and couldn't get by him. I finally got by him and Peter and David were long gone at that point."
John Burke:
"It was nice to have a car run well the entire weekend. It was a lot of fun and we had a good race. I was basically driving around looking to improve."
Next up, Formula Race Promotions heads for its season finale at New Jersey Motorsports Park, October 6-8, 2017. F1600 will see a traditional tripleheader weekend to decide its Championship, with title battles going over double races on offer for F2000 and Atlantic.
