Jim Goughary heads to Virginia International Raceway this weekend for the F1600 Series opening race with great momentum coming off two podium finishes at Sebring International Raceway in regional events before the official start of the F1600 Series season. Goughary looks to build on that momentum to generate a win on the first weekend of the series season, but knows it won’t be an easy task.

“I am really looking forward to this weekend kicking off the F1600 Championship series. There are 32 cars entered so far and a tremendous amount of talent. Looks like 5 previous National Champions and some very serious teams. This is shaping up to be an incredible event.”

The 2011 F1600 Formula F Championship Series will feature a 10-race, five-event schedule, with all participants on Hoosier spec tires. There are chassis manufacturers from Van Diemen, Swift, Piper, Mygale, Royale, Citation, Lola, Bowman and Crossle, with engine choices from Honda Fit and Ford Kent.

For the inaugural event, against top competition, Goughary is one of 12 out of the 32 entered that are running Honda power. He knows it’s an uphill battle this weekend, but still maintains high hopes the teams’ recent development and testing will pay dividends.

“I am ready, Raceworks is ready, and our testing at VIR last month has us going into this weekend with a lot of confidence. I was not sure how long it would take me to get comfortable with a Formula Car again but after the test it fit me like a glove,” said Goughary. “I have to say thanks to P1 Groupe and AXA Advisers for all of their support and I think we are going to have a strong showing this weekend!”
