Lexington, OH – F1600 newcomers Wyatt Gooden and Mitch Martin both put down a laps of 1:28.223 to set the pace during practice at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in their F1600 Formula F Championship Series debuts. Gooden’s #17 Van Diemen/Honda, fielded by Quantum Racing Services, was consistently at the top of the time charts for three straight sessions and so was Martin, driving the #16 Spectrum/Honda for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing.
Gooden brings a wealth of karting experience and ran in the 2010 VW TDI Cup, sanctioned by SCCA Pro Racing. Additionally, the aspiring driver is the online iRacing.com champion as his #17 Honda carries significant iRacing.com branding this weekend in Ohio.
Martin, meanwhile, has just a handful of Formula Vee races under his belt, and the Spectrum is a brand new chassis from Australia.
Jim Goughary, who won the first race of the season, was third quickest in his Piper/Honda, and was followed in the top five by John Robinson and Tim Kautz, both in Fords. Kautz, in the Piper chassis, is the championship points leader.
Sam Beasley, Mike Scanlan, Caitlin Johnston, Bill Valet and Art Foster rounded out the top ten.
