FRP Crowns Champions in Season Finale at Summit Point

August 19, 2025

Formula Race Promotions (FRP) finished their 2025 season at Summit Point Motorsports Park from August 15-17, where champions were crowned and celebrated across all three Formula Race Promotions series.

In the closest margin ever for the FRP F1600 Championship title, Ayrton Cahan defeated his brother and teammate Gabriel Cahan by a single point. One point behind them was Wesley Gundler, who swept all three races this weekend in a valiant effort to try to claw back a deficit that was more than 50 points going into the weekend. David Adorno took home multiple F1600 Masters class wins, securing the Masters Champion title and 5th place overall, the highest overall masters ranking in over a decade.

As for the other champions, Carter Sheets took home his first FRP F2000 title when he scored his tenth podium of the season in the final race on Sunday. John McAleer and Justin Di Lucia handily won the Atlantic 016 and Atlantic Juniors classes, respectively. In the Atlantic Open class, Brandon Schwarz solidly secured his Championship title at WGI, leaving Paulie Gatto and Charles Livingston to continue their season-long close battle for second. After the final race, it would be Livingston over Gatto by only 1 point.

“Another season in the books,” explained FRP’s Bob Wright. “We will take a breather, recover, and then begin putting together our 2026 campaign. We have most of our dates secured, but the official announcements have to come later this fall.  Thank you to everyone for the continued support. Bring on next year!”

Race 1 Recap:

Wesley Gundler took his third victory of the 2025 season for K-Hill Motorsports as he crossed the line first in a race that saw a four-car breakaway form at the front after a brief caution period

Gundler held off Ayrton Cahan, who made a move on Chace Supplee late in the race to pull off second position and close the gap to his brother at the top of the championship standings, setting up for a dramatic Sunday.

“It was a very fun race,” said Gundler. “That restart there caught me off guard, but we were able to stay right there and in front the whole time.”

On the podium as well was Chace Supplee, who picked up his second consecutive podium after a runner-up finish in the second race in New Jersey, pushing him in the mix for a top-five finishing position in the championship standings.

John Thompson took the F1600 Masters victory ahead of David Adorno. Adorno built on his lead to Scott Rubenzer in the championship standings as he looks to take his first F1600 Masters title on Sunday.

Race 2 Recap:

Wesley Gundler made it two-in-a-row to keep his outside shot at the F1600 championship alive into the final race, becoming the third driver in FRP F1600 to win back-to-back races in 2025.

Gundler was able to build out a gap to the four cars behind after the top five jousted for position throughout the race, going into turn 1 sometimes at three-wide.

It was Gundler’s fourth win of 2025. The race also allowed Ayrton Cahan to gain points on his brother Gabriel Cahan at the top of the championship standings, with Ayrton Cahan finishing third to Gabriel Cahan’s fourth, setting up a final race where the two sat two points apart. Chace Supplee also grabbed his third consecutive podium, his best streak of 2025.

David Adorno, finishing sixth overall, picked up the F1600 Masters class win and with it enough points to mathematically clinch the F1600 Masters class title. It is Adorno’s first F1600 Masters championship.

“It was an awesome race,” said Adorno. “The start was amazing with (John) Thompson on my inside, going two wide through one, and it was a battle. Nobody wanted to let up.”

Race 3 Recap:

It couldn’t have come down to a closer margin for the FRP F1600 championship as Ayrton Cahan beat his brother Gabriel Cahan over the line by less than five hundredths of a second to win the title by a series-record one-point margin.

Wesley Gundler took the race win, becoming the first driver to sweep a three-race weekend of FRP F1600 in 2025. Between himself and Ayrton Cahan, who finished third overall, was Chace Supplee, who grabbed back-to-back runner-up finishes, and moved into the Championship 4th place overall, a great season for this rookie driver.

“I got out front and just started clicking laps,” said Gundler. “This year is the most fun that I have ever had racing.”

The two-by-two pack crossing the finish line behind Gundler was Supplee, Ayrton Cahan, Gabriel Cahan, and then Cooper Travis, who grabbed the remaining top-five positions. David Adorno took the class win in F1600 Masters as well, cementing his 2025 class title run.

Palacio finished ahead of Robert Wright, who matched his best finish of 2025, with Carter Sheets sitting behind the two within striking distance of clinching the driver’s championship in the next race.

Dave Weitzenhof finished one spot off the podium in fourth place. It was Weitzenhof’s joint-best finish of the year as well, matching his other fourth in the season opener at Road America

Race 2 Recap:

Carter Sheets added his name to the list of Formula Race Promotions F2000 champions as his second-place finish was good enough to clinch the 2025 drivers title.

Sheets won three races in 2025 and built on a third-place finish last season in his rookie campaign to take his first title in F2000 at the age of 16.

“I’ve definitely learned a lot from everyone here in the F2000 category,” said Sheets. “Bob (Wright) was breathing down my neck the entire time, and I made sure he was still in my mirrors and not by my side by the end of the race.”

Also during the race, Nick Palacio became the first Formula Race Promotions F2000 driver to win five or more races in a single season since 2022 champion JC Trahan as he took the checkered flag by a commanding 25-second margin and grabbed third place in the championship with it.

Behind Sheets was Robert Wright, who secured his place as runner-up in the championship for 2025. Arshia Akhtar also grabbed her second consecutive top-five finish, and secured the 4th place spot in the season Championship, a great season for this rookie driver as well.
