FRP Championship Battles Continue to Forge at New Jersey Motorsports Park

Formula Race Promotions (FRP) capped off their second-to-final race weekend of the 2025 season with four races across its three series and the culmination of numerous championship battles, which will continue as the series progresses through its final month.
The race weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park saw FRP join three other open-wheel series as fans were treated to racing all throughout the weekend. In total, over two dozen cars contested FRP competition, and the winners of each of the classes took weekend sweeps as drivers touted their dominance on the 2.25-mile circuit.
Due to an on-track incident on Sunday morning, the F1600 class had only two races to its typical three and F2000/Atlantic’s second qualifying session was canceled. Still, all classes got two races in as teams got to race on Saturday and Sunday after practice and qualifying earlier in the weekend.

Race 1 Recap
Gabriel Cahan took his series-leading sixth victory of 2025 by only five thousandths of a second over championship rival Wesley Gundler, closing the gap between himself and his brother Ayrton Cahan at the top of the standings.
Ayrton Cahan battled back from being knocked further in the field after qualifying on pole to take third place. Right behind them, it was a strong run for Chace Supplee, who sits eighth in the championship standings and picked up his best finish since the third race in Pittsburgh in June.
Joe Colasacco, fourth in the F1600 Masters standings, picked up the class victory in F1600 Masters. The championship leader in that class, David Adorno, managed to earn a top five in class after qualifying on the class pole.

Race 2 Recap
Gabriel Cahan took control of the championship this weekend with a weekend sweep that will give him the upper edge in the title fight for the first time of 2025. Aryton Cahan and Wesley Gundler approached the last turn onto the front straight headed to the checker with Gundler perfectly set up to potentially draft past Cahan for the win. It was not to be as the two touched and spun off the track. Gabe Cahan, running third, managed to avoid the spinning cars to take his seventh victory of the season. Aryton Cahan recovered to finish third, Gundler seventh.
Finishing second in the race was Chace Supplee, who secured his season-best finish of 2025 and his first podium of his FRP F1600 career. His previous best finish was a fourth place in Pittsburgh in June. After not appearing at Watkins Glen, Supplee’s strong weekend at New Jersey puts him right in the fight for a top-five finish in the championship standings in his rookie year, when accounting for the three drops.
Ayrton Cahan entered this weekend as the championship leader and will stay safely in the hunt trailing his brother as they head to Summit Point. Joe Colasacco picked up the weekend sweep in F1600 Masters, with class championship leader David Adorno having a bounce-back race to take second in class.

Race 1 Recap

Sheets continued his impressive podium run to make it four of his last five as the second-year driver continued his run toward the F2000 championship, building his championship points gap at the top over third place finisher Robert Wright. Gabrial Jasper pitted on the pace lap with a broken suspension, taking himself out of contention. John Dole securing his best F2000 finish so far in 2025 crossed the line in fourth position.

Race 2 Recap
Nick Palacio went two-for-two on the weekend and continued his strong run of form in the F2000 class, dating back to his Road America win just over a month ago, as he beat out championship leader Carter Sheets.
Palacio consistently put together the quickest times all weekend with a near-perfectly driven set of laps, and was rewarded with his third trip to the top step of the podium of 2025, becoming the second driver in the class to achieve that. Sheets picked up his fifth podium in the past six races.
Finishing behind them was John Dole, who grabbed his best finishing position of the season in third. Wright spun in turn five on the second lap and was collected by Gabriele Jasper who took off Wright’s nose and front wing forcing him to retire the car. Gabriele Jasper retired a few laps later with a broken shift linkage, while his son Phillip Jasper finally parked his car before the end of the race with a sick motor.
