Filgueiras Continues Podium Run at WGI
Rolling into the hills of historic Watkins Glen, NY The 2015 F2000 Championship Series continued with round’s 3 & 4 at famed Watkins Glen International Raceway. 21 year young driver Eric Filgueiras could not have been more excited to challenge the course and test his abilities. Filgueiras was a first time visitor to WGI and with only 6 sessions of track time it would certainly be a fast learning process. After two practice sessions Friday Eric ended the day in a respectable 6th place on the time sheets.
The First round of the weekend would begin with a damp/ slick qualifying which rewarded careful yet swift driving. Eric would set a pace with his Lipten Energy Solutions #22 machine to start Saturday’s race in 3rd position. The race would prove not to be as exciting with Filgueiras falling back to a 6th place finish after a mistake in the bus stop corner.
Due to a rainstorm the night before, the second qualifying round of the weekend would go through with similar results, but with closer times for the top 3 drivers. Feeling more confident with the car and track, Filgueiras started the second and final race in 3rd position. After fighting for second all the way up to the bus stop he would be shuffled back to 5th and then fought his way back up to 3rd just before a full-course caution was thrown for an on-track accident. Restarting 4th, Filgueiras had only two laps to get it done. The green flag waved and he would immediately go on the offense. Making his move on the backstretch he made his move outside of the bus stop entrance to take 3rd place and hold onto it until the checkered flag.
“Saturday’s race was more of a struggle because we did not quite have the car setup correct, but we made the adjustments we needed and even though Sunday’s race was an absolute fight we bounced back nicely.” Beamed Filgueiras “The team did amazing and we are showing our strength in the series. A special thank you to Jorge Herrera and Robert Cao for their help throughout the weekend!”
All of this weekend’s success was accomplished with the constant support of Lipten Energy Solutions, Kovi Consulting, SPEEDCOM Communications, HAWK Performance, BELL Helmets, Oakley, A&B Graphics, GoPro, RaceQuip and Dark Horse Pros.
