New Pole Award Recognizes Work in Keeping Kids on Track

Sharon, CT – SOS Children’s Villages, the world’s largest charity dedicated to providing homes to orphaned, abandoned and foster children, will be back as the official charity of Formula Race Promotions in 2012, supporting the F2000 Championship Series, F1600 Formula F Championship Series, and new Atlantic Championship.

Introducing the SOS Children’s Villages Pole Award

The global charity will sponsor the SOS Children’s Village Pole Award at each race during the season, with a separate pole Championship for the F2000 and F1600 Series going to the driver in each Championship that accumulates the most poles over the course of the 2012 season.

A driver wins a pole when he or she turns the fastest lap time in a 30-minute qualifying session prior to the race, to determine in what order the cars will line up at the start of the race .

The pole winner count will be kept throughout the 2012 season so that the drivers of F1600 and the F2000 Series with the most poles will be awarded the Championship at the end of the season during an awards ceremony at Watkins Glen International.

The winning drivers will be featured on the SOS Children’s Villages web site and will have an SOS child in a country of his or her choice sponsored in their names.

Additionally, SOS, along with Formula Race Promotions, will run a season-long fundraising campaign for drivers, crew and fans of the F1600 and F2000! Funds raised will be used support the charity’s operations as well as to sponsor children for the F1600 and F2000 winners.

F1600 followers can donate at http://help.sos-usa.org/f1600, while the F2000 community can go to http://help.sos-usa.org/f2000 .

Mr. John Allen, CEO of SOS Children’s Villages – USA expressed his appreciation of this partnership: “For over 60 years, SOS Children’s Villages has been keeping kids on track through its  family-based Children’s Villages and Family Strengthening Programs. Supporters of the Atlantic Championship Series, F1600 and F2000 are known to be very aware of international events and understand that changing the life of just one child can positively impact people all over the world. We look forward to celebrating each victory, lap-by-lap, just as we celebrate our children’s successes day-by-day. “

“We are delighted to be partnering with SOS Children’s Villages for the 2012 season. The work they do is impressive and we are proud to support them,” said Michael Rand, managing director of Formula Race Promotions. “The Pole Championship for F2000 and F1600 will be another unique aspect of the season and should be hotly contested this year.”
