F1600 Heads for Lime Rock
Lakeville, CT – Coming off his first win at Road Atlanta, 21-year-old Aaron Telitz and his No. 13 WISKO Racing Mygale/Honda lead the F1600 Formula F Championship Series points heading into rounds five and six of the 2013 campaign at Lime Rock Park this weekend. Adrian Starrantino and Jake Eidson, both race winners, sit second and third in points, ahead of Ayla Agren.
Of the top three drivers in the Championship designed for veterans and aspiring racers, Telitz is the only one to finish all four races so far. The WISKO driver has two fourth places at VIR, and a win and second place at Road Atlanta. That win came in dramatic fashion as Telitz went from third to first on the last lap.
“I’ve never been to Lime Rock Park before, but I have driven it on a simulator,” said Telitz. “We are doing the Tuesday test day to get familiar. After Road Atlanta we have a good base-line setup on the Mygale and that will really help going to Lime Rock. The plan is to stay in contention for the wins, but also to stay out of trouble and take home maximum points.”
Telitz will be joined on the test day by his WISKO teammate Paul Alspach, who ran well at Road Atlanta with two top-10 finishes.
Lime Rock’s short course should keep the large field relatively close together. Of four F1600 races in 2013, three have been won with a last-lap pass.
Bryan Herta Autosport’s Adrian Starrantino was looking unstoppable after his sweep of both wins at VIR. Come Road Atlanta, Starrantino would settle for second in race one and failed to finish the second race after contact while fighting for the lead.
“Following a very tough round two in Atlanta, we are back at the shop and working harder than ever to capitalize on the next rounds to come,” said Starrantino. “Going into Lime Rock I am looking to put my head down and take what I learned from Atlanta and come back stronger than ever. Luckily I have been to Lime Rock in the past so I have a good amount of confidence getting around there.
“The biggest challenge at Lime Rock will most likely be looking after the tires. Lime Rock is notorious for tearing up tires so we are looking to find ways to maintain tire life as long as possible.”
After a strong, but frustrating start to 2013, with two second places at VIR, Jake Eidson finally came through, winning by the largest margin of the season in the final race at Road Atlanta in the Cape Motorsports Spectrum/Honda entry.
Eidson, of course, is driving a similar chassis and for the same team that won the F1600 Championship in 2012.
“I’ve raced at Lime Rock Park several times before in Skip Barber Race events. I've had both good and bad experiences there, but I'm very excited for this next F1600 Series race, because I know the competition will be very close, and the Cape Motorsports team had great results at Lime Rock last year,” added Eidson.
Herta’s Ayla Agren scored a pole and podium at VIR and took home more consistent points at Road Atlanta to put her fourth in the standings. Steve Bamford rounds out the top five, and led most of race one in Georgia in his Mygale/Honda – the fastest of the Masters Class drivers.
