Eidson, Cape Motorsports Ready for Season Opener at VIR

April 11, 2013

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (April 11, 2013) – Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing and No. 10 Spectrum Honda driver Jake Eidson are ready to begin the F1600 Formula F Championship this weekend at Virginia International Raceway. Eidson, the 2012 Skip Barber Summer Series Champion, hopes to continue the Cape Motorsports winning tradition in the F1600 Series.

"I have several goals for this weekends race at VIR,” Eidson said. “The most importantly is to obviously win, but I don't believe that can be achieved without completing several other goals I've set for myself. My first goal is to completely understand the characteristics of the Spectrum racecar. I’m learning what is the best way to drive it as well as the technical aspects in terms of understanding what the cars setup needs to be improved for the track conditions.”

Eidson is the 2012 Skip Barber Summer Series Championship, and in 2011, he was awarded the Skip Barber Rookie of the Year award for the Winter Series. His experience at VIR included a stop during the Skip Barber Summer Series, winning three of the four races he participated in.

“While I have experience at VIR, I’m still learning to better understand the track and what I need to do to improve. I feel comfortable going into this weekend’s races in terms of knowing the track, and I'm sure the Cape Motorsports team and I can build on that."

Eidson and the team will first be on track Thursday, April 11 for testing. On Friday, April 12, the team will have two 25-minute practice sessions. Qualifying will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 13th with Race 1 going green at 4:30 p.m. On Sunday, April 14th, qualifying will be held at 1 p.m. and Race 2 starts at 4 p.m.

“We are looking forward to a great weekend,” said team owners Dominic and Nicholas Cape. “We are confident that Jake will learn the Spectrum chassis quickly and stand on the podium at the end of the weekend.”
