The new F1600 Championship Trophy.

New York- NY – When the inaugural F1600 Formula F Championship Series wraps up in Watkins Glen in October, the champions name will be permanently added to the new championship trophy, the Dangerous Cargo Cup. The trophy was donated by E.J. Generotti, a long time Formula F driver, and unveiled in Orlando two weeks ago at the F1600 meeting during the Performance Racing Industry trade show.

The trophy was imported from Italy, and made by a company that also produces cups for most European soccer championships, according to Generotti. The base of the F1600 trophy is made of the highest density marble available in Italy.

“In 1984, three friends got together and wanted to develop an alternate business to help support our racing. We tried to think of different ideas and then noted that clothing companies appeared on virtually all racing cars in upper levels,” explained Generotti. “At the time I was racing Formula Fords, and we came up with the idea of a youth clothing company to work as a potential sponsor.”

So Dangerous Cargo was born.

“In 1985, I began carrying the Dangerous Cargo logo on all my racing cars and that of my friend, Guy Church. He was very instrumental in furthering my ‘semi-professional career’, and I was able to obtain rides in the IMSA Series RS Sedan and later the GTO and GTU classes usually while carrying the Dangerous Cargo logo. We raced in IMSA from 1986 through1991 when I went back to FF and then became a hockey coach,” Generotti continued.

Generotti coached a traveling hockey team that won the NHL Breakout Championship four times. The team name? “Dangerous Cargo”.

“In the summer of 2008, my friend, Guy, was diagnosed with inoperable brain, lung and liver cancer and passed away. I promised I would keep the Dangerous Cargo racing team logo in some form along with a logo for a company owned by him, Florida Fixtures (yellow triangle), on the race cars,” Generotti added.

Generotti’s son – Jason –plans on contesting a few F1600 Series races this coming season in the F1600 Series in a Swift DB-1, having won the Florida FF Championship in 2006 and 2007, along with the 2007 South Atlantic Road Racing Championship.

The 2011 inaugural F1600  Formula F Championship Series opens at VIR, April 8-10, with a double-header weekend, like all the events. The Series next heads to Watkins Glen, June 3-5, with Grand-Am. June 30-July 2 sees the Series visit Mid-Ohio before pairing up with the NASCAR Modifieds at Lime Rock Park, September 16-17 and finishes at Watkins Glen, October 14-16., with what is appearing to be a 2011 full of massive car counts.
