Connery Ends F2000 Season with a Win

October 17, 2011
Connery won number six on 2011.

Watkins Glen, NY – Kyle Connery took his sixth win of 2011, and second of the day, to end the F2000 Championship Series season with a daring move on 2011 Champion Remy Audette on a restart in round 14. Connery would run away from the pack, although the race did end under caution. Connery’s sweep of Watkins Glen vaulted him to third in points, winning Rookie of the Year for CC Autosport. Rob Nicholas won the Masters Class, finishing second ahead of Audette in a 33-car field.

“On the restart Remy came over and we went all the way to the wall,” said Connery, who has the most wins of any driver in the 2011 season. “He gave me room and I got by. I didn’t want to win under caution but we’ll take it.”

The race was run late on Sunday afternoon, on an ever darkening race track, with the skies opening literally as the checkered flags waved.

For the entire 2011 season, Champion Audette finished outside the top five, once, when he came home seventh at Mid-Ohio.

Rob Nicholas took his best finish of the year for K-Fast Autosport in the No. 89 Van Diemen, with Robert La Rocca in fourth for HP-Tech Motorsport in the RFR chassis. Thomas Schwietz rounded out the top five with Brian Tomasi, Chris Livengood, Angel Benitez, Mark Defer and John La Rue completing the top ten.

In the Championship, Audette easily wins and is followed by Chris Livengood, Connery, Minor and La Rocca.

Round 14 of the 2011 season got underway cleanly but Tim Minor ended up in the turn 11 wall coming to lap two to bring out a full course caution. Minor finished second in the first race of the weekend and led most of the laps.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, 2010 F2000 Champion Victor Carbone won the Indy Lights race on an oval in Las Vegas.

The race for the SOS Children’s Villages Cup went to 2011 Champion Remy Audette, who amassed the most points over four races at Watkins Glen.
