Conner Kearby in Position for Title Run
Conner Kearby has had a great season in the Atlantic Championship Series so far with a win at Road Atlanta, giving him an amazing start to the year. Along with that, he has had two more podium finishes over the course of six races putting him in position to compete for the title with eight races to go. The K-Hill Motorsports driver is also apart of the younger crew of drivers that are pushing the limits on the track.
Kearby came into his second season in the Atlantic Championship Series only to continue his prior success in 2014 where he took to the podium at Thompson, VIR, and Road Atlanta as well. The eighteen year old quickly took the 2015 series by the horns and jumped into the winner’s circle at Road Atlanta and has accompanied that with consistent finishes at every stop that this season has had to offer.
Looking forward, Kearby plans to continue his fight for the championship at Mid-Ohio as he holds second place in the point standings overall.
Kearby keeps a humble attitude as he goes into the next stop of the season, only hoping to go out and do the best that he can.
“There are no expectations for Mid-Ohio or the rest of the season I just have to go out and run my best and if I do that I will be happy with the results. Mid-Ohio is a complicated course but I am just looking forward to a fun race,” said Kearby.
Along with his win at Road Atlanta, Kearby took second a second place podium finish earlier in the weekend in race one at Road Atlanta. Kearby followed up the opening weekend with another strong finish at Watkins Glen, where he took to the podium yet again with a second place finish.
“My favorite stop is always Watkins Glen, it’s always a blast,” said Kearby on the weekend despite the bad luck he experienced in race two with an engine issue.
The weekend at VIRginia International Raceway allowed for Kearby to have back-to-back top five finishes. He trailed the top three for the entirety of both races but in the end had to settle with fourth place finishes.
Kearby is the son of well-known driver and fellow competitor in the Atlantic Series Gaston Kearby. G. Kearby shares the track with his son and on more than one occasion the two have come across the finish line very to close to one another.
VIR also marked a big milestone for the aspiring driver as he graduated from high school. C. Kearby ditched the cap and gown for a helmet and a racing suit although he was however able to sneak in a quick photo shoot wearing his cap and gown with his Swift 016/Mazda in the background.
C. Kearby and Keith Grant, who sets in first in the point standings, have separated themselves from the rest of the field and will continue their fight at rounds seven and eight taking place at Mid-Ohio.
After Mid-Ohio only three stops remain for the season. Stops include Pittsburgh at the end of July into the beginning of August, New Jersey at the end of August and then Pittsburgh again for the final race in October.
The Mid-Ohio weekend will run July 3-5 and marks the middle of the season for the Atlantic Championship Series.
