Chastain Motorsports Announces 2014 F1600 Program
Indianapolis, IN – Former IndyCar team and three-time Indy 500 entrant Chastain Motorsports has confirmed its F1600 Formula F Championship Series team for the 2014 season. Twenty year old Sam Chastain will drive the No. 27 Mygale/Honda for grandfather Tom Chastain and father Chris Chastain. Their plan is to run a number of F1600 cars in the 14-race, seven-weekend 2014 F1600 Series. The team is actively looking for two more drivers.
“The F1600 Championship Series is on the verge of breaking out,” said Tom Chastain, team owner. “The competition is fierce, the tracks are good and the track time for drivers allows them ample learning time.”
Sam Chastain is a second year F1600 driver, having joined the Series straight out of karting in 2013 for Bryan Herta Autosport.
Chastain Motorsports has already acquired two Mygale chassis, formerly Bryan Herta Autosport cars, and is joined by team manager Don Williams for the 2014 season.
Chastain Motorsports ran the 1997 and 1998 IndyCar schedules with driver Stéphan Grégoire. The team made a comeback one-off appearance in 2007 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, qualifying for the Indy 500 with Roberto Moreno.
Now, Chastain is back, fielding an effort for grandson Sam Chastain, in his second full season of pro racing.
The 2014 schedule calls for doubleheader weekends at Road Atlanta, Watkins Glen, VIR, Mid-Ohio, Pittsburgh, Thompson and Watkins Glen for a second time to close the season.
The Indianapolis-based team is also planning off-season testing at Putnam Park to evaluate potential teammates. While Sam is in the No. 27 car, the team has already registered the No. 28 and No. 29 with Series organizers.
