Chastain Expands to Three Cars for Season Finale at Watkins Glen

Noblesville, IN – Chastain Motorsports will expand to a three-car team for the F1600 Formula F Championship Series finale at Watkins Glen, October 10-12, as Andy (Andrew) Lewis will strap into the team’s new No. 28 Mygale/Honda entry. Both Sam Chastain and Evan Mehan are coming off their first wins of 2014 when the Chastain squad swept both races at Thompson Speedway in Connecticut at the end of August.

Chastain Motorsports will enter the No. 27, No. 28 and No. 29 cars at Watkins Glen, after starting the season with a single entry at Road Atlanta in April.

Lewis matches perfectly with his two new teammates, as he is 19 years old and hails from Indianapolis.

"I've been watching my Dad race a 1972 Titan Formula Ford since I was a little kid,” said the mechanical engineering sophomore at the University of Michigan. “Obviously the modern cars are quite a bit different, but I've always known the F1600 to be a great entry level car. I think not having aids like sequential gear boxes or wings will really teach me about car handling and how to get everything I can out of the car."

He brings with him both Skip Barber experience and lots of karting time, in addition to a number of weekends in a Formula BMW and a weekend racing a Formula F car at the June Sprints at Road America in June.

Under the Chastain awning, Lewis can expect to work with the team’s driver coach and engineer, IndyCar driver Jay Howard.

“My goal for Watkins Glen is to simply get acclimated to the Pro series and being part of a pro team,” Lewis continued. “A lot of aspects of the weekend, such as working with an engineer and two teammates will be new to me. If I can focus on working with Jay Howard to analyze and improve my driving as the weekend progresses, I am confident I can have a successful first outing.”

Chastain Motorsports has won three of 12 F1600 races so far this season, with three different drivers (Brandon Newey won at VIR earlier in the year) – and also grabbed a victory during a one-off event on the streets of Toronto in July.

"I have never been to Watkins Glen, but am excited to get to race at such a historic track. I'd like to thank everyone at Chastain Motorsports for giving me this opportunity,” noted Lewis.

Rounds 13 and 14 of the season conclude the 2014 F1600 Series Championship, and are scheduled for October 10-12 at Watkins Glen International.
