Alamonte Springs, FL – Black Watch Racing Group has announced that it will contest the 12-round, six-weekend 2012 F1600 Formula F Championship Series season with a pair of Van Diemen/Hondas. The team is a newcomer to the F1600 Series, but ran a SCCA Formula F program in 2011, including an entry at the National Championship Runoffs.
Drivers are yet to be announced, as the team continues its search, and has testing plans leading up to the season opener at VIRginia International Raceway, April 12 – 15.
“The team has been established just in time for the 2012 season. We will run two completely rebuilt, Honda-powered Van Diemens,” said Dan Murphy, team president.
“We will be conducting a test and tune in conjunction with the SCCA January double national at Sebring and Homestead,” Murphy continued.
He said it is their intention to use 2012 to run a two-car team in the surging F1600 Series, with plans to expand for 2013, looking at the rest of the Formula Race Promotions offerings, including the F2000 Championship Series and recently launched Atlantic Championship Series.
“We are now actively recruiting drivers, and anticipating an ultimate composition of a team manager, four cars/drivers, four mechanics, two engineers and a logistics/transportation director,” added Murphy.
The F1600 Series will start the year in April at VIRginia International Raceway, followed by Memorial Day weekend at Lime Rock Park, supporting ARCA at New Jersey Motorsports Park in late June, and then onto Mid-Ohio in late July, followed by Summit Point in August and the season finale at Watkins Glen International in October.
