Barron to Race in F2000 at VIR
Alton, VA- Former IndyCar driver and 1997 Atlantic Series Champion Alex Barron will enter Saturday's race at VIR, the opening round of the 2017 F2000 Championship Series season. Barron will drive the Polestar Racing Group entry normally occupied by Dan Denison, who is away from the track with a conflict on Saturday.
The two-time IndyCar winner shook the car down in morning qualifying, managing to qualify third in a tight F2000 field for Sunday's race.
However, with Denison back in the car for Sunday, Barron will come from the back of the field in Saturday's race.
The veteran driver normally serves as the team's driver coach.
Barron made his season debut in the CART Champ Car Series in 1998, driving an Eagle with Toyota power for All American Racers. Wins came in 2002 at Nashville and in 2003 at Michigan in IndyCar competition.
He has a best finish of fourth at the Indianapolis 500, which came in 2002 for Blair Racing.
