Audette Wins Pole for Race One at Mosport

June 12, 2010

Bowmanville, ONT – Remy Audette took a commanding pole during morning qualifying for the first F2000 race of the weekend at Mosport. Audette’s pole makes it two at Mosport for the Audette family, as brother Mathieu won pole for the Canadian Touring Car race as well. Championship points leader Victor Carbone will start on the outside of the front row. Teammate and fellow Brazilian Fabio Orsolon will line up third alongside Tim Minor, the fastest Masters Class qualifier. Cole Morgan and Chris Livengood rounded out the top six.

“It was a good session, I was a bit worried with the black flags since we didn’t get a good lap in early but it allowed us to make some changes,” commented Audette, who ran a quick lap of 1:22.115. “On the last run I built my confidence, it looks good having both Audettes on pole here.”

Changing weather conditions played a factor following a wet early-morning practice. The 10-turn famed Canadian road course dried, which had teams rushing to go back to dry setups. As qualifying neared, a drizzle started and a mostly dry race track turned damp in some areas.

Jonathan Scarallo spun in turn four and had heavy impact into the tire wall in the #22 R-Sport Van Diemen. It is unclear whether Scarallo will make any sessions for the rest of the weekend.

Cole Morgan also had an off on his out-lap, damaging the rear wing on the #1. However, his Liberty Motorsports team wisely used multiple session stoppages to replace the rear wing. Additionally, Morgan lost the diffuser on his Van Diemen later in the session, despite being able to qualify fifth.

Race one of the event happens later today at 2:50pm. Sunday sees a 9:40am qualifying session for round two of the weekend, at 11:45am. Fans can follow live updates on Twitter @F2000.
