Salem, NH – Atlantic Championship Series competitors racing Swift 014, 008 and Ralt RT-41 cars can look forward to their own race within the Atlantic field for the remaining three double-race weekends of 2014. Based on competitor feedback and demand, Atlantic Series officials have introduced the Atlantic Challenge, providing a purse, trophies, recognition and more for Atlantic drivers in late-model equipment.

While Swift 016/Mazda drivers will continue the fight for the overall title in well-developed newer cars, a number of entries will look to Atlantic Challenge honors in non-Swift 016 equipment.

“As the series developments the return of professional Atlantic racing, it is important to give those who have supported these cars in the past a place to continue to race for a title,” said Chip Robinson, Series race director.

The class will work similar to the Masters Class in F2000 and F1600, that being drivers receive points for their overall place in the race, and a purse based on their overall finishing position as well as position within the Challenge.

As of now, Tyler Hunter’s Swift 014/Toyota leads the Atlantic Challenge standings for Swan Motorsports.

The Atlantic Championship Series, now featuring the Atlantic Challenge, heads toward rounds five and six of 10 at VIR, June 5-8.
