Atlantic Challenge

May 28, 2014

The Atlantic Championship Series has announced an adjustment to the format based on the first two races of the year.  The Series has always been aware of the issues surrounding the various cars eligible for the Championship; specifically the Swift 016 is a very different car from all the previous Formula Atlantics, in size, engine displacement and performance.  The cars cannot be made equal.  We attempted to make them “race-able” both in 2012 and this year, but the results show this not to be particularly successful.

As a result, we are introducing a set of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies together with prize money for the highest three finishers driving a non- Swift 016.  This will be coined the Atlantic Challenge and there will be year-end recognition as well.   Those cars will still be eligible for the overall points, trophies and prize money. We will continue to monitor relative performance and reserve the right to adjust rules as necessary.
