Aidan Keel Completes Successful Test with LTD Motorsports
Kershaw, SC – On a perfect, sun-drenched afternoon in South Carolina, Aidan Keel, the 15 year-old nationally ranked Rotax Jr. driver, took to the Carolina Motorsports Park track for his first ever test in a F2000 LTD Motorsports RF-02 Van Diemen. Immediately, the standout driver displayed his abilities as he scorched around the circuit consistently lowering his times lap after lap.
“I’ve always wanted to drive an open-wheel race car and it was better than I ever thought it would be,” said Keel. “It was way faster than anything that I have driven and much different than any kart.”
Keel is considering a move from karting, where he has enjoyed much success. In 2013, he won the 2013 Rotax Pan-American Challenge Championship and earned an invitation to the Rotax Grand Finals where he finished 4th among some of the world’s best young drivers. In 2014, Keel traveled to Europe to compete in the Rotax Euro Challenge, going up against 72 of the continent’s best junior drivers. While he was only 12 years old at the time, Keel’s times put him into the top 20 of the more experienced, mostly 14 and 15 year old group. Then in 2016, Keel earned another trip to Europe, competing in the Rok Cup World Finals in Lonato, Italy. His most recent karting event was at the SKUSA Winter Nationals in New Orleans, where he finished 4th out of 40 junior karting stars.
“He definitely has the ability to be competitive in these cars,” said LTD Motorsports team owner Dave Livingston. “We can see Aidan doing very well in the F2000 pro series, or in SCCA. Whatever he decides, he will be someone to watch.”
“Driving the car and getting up to speed was the best part of the day,” added Keel. “We had some issues with the car early in the day, but the team fixed it quickly and everything ran smoothly from there on out. It’s a great team.”
LTD Motorsports is already competing in the upcoming F2000 Championship series with 2014 SCCA National Champion Robert Allaer.
